What makes a seed heirloom?

Heirloom varieties are open-pollinated varieties valued for their history, distinctive traits and ability to grow true to type when pollination is managed carefully.

How is an F1 hybrid different?

An F1 hybrid is the first generation produced by crossing two selected parent lines. It may offer uniform growth or particular traits, but saved seed usually does not reproduce the same combination reliably.

Can I save heirloom seed?

Often, yes. To keep a variety true to type, allow healthy plants to mature and prevent unwanted cross-pollination with compatible varieties growing nearby.

These seeds are not coming back once sold out. I would genuinely love to see the remaining packets planted, grown and turned into nourishing food rather than left sitting on a shelf.

A useful distinction: heirloom, hybrid and genetically modified describe different things. F1 seeds are not the same as genetically modified seeds.
